Katherine Moran was born in Galway, Ireland. Though her age is inconsistently reported throughout her life, her death certificate says she was born on October 15, 1859 about two years before her husband Denis Doherty. She came to Chicago around 1884. She raised seven children. She passed away April 22, 1927 of heart failure. She was buried next to her husband at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune ran the following death notice on April 24.
